about

Thank you, Nadia, for taking me under your wing so we could record these songs together. To anyone who's reading this, my friend Nadia performs under the moniker Konig. It would mean a lot to me if you went and listened to her albums on Bandcamp. The tendrils from Nadia's music are twined around my marrow cause I listen to her albums all the time. When I got back from Kingston I had this plan to write string arrangements for all the songs on the album. I was having a bit of trouble, though – a creative block where my brain was like a car engine, and every time I'd turn the ignition key I'd just hear a tuckered out grg grg grg sound from underneath the hood. I was taking this yoga class where the teacher told me to think of a mantra during the Shavasana, the corpse pose you do at the end of a session to self-reflect and channel your energy. My mantra became “I am a force of nature like Nadia Pacey.” I felt super-embarrassed repeating it in my head, as if the universe was whispering “dork” after eavesdropping on this very personal ritual of wanting to emulate an artist I look up to. Over the weeks, as that force of nature energy gained momentum, I'd turn the ignition key, hear the engine inside my brain roar, and then all these deadly string arrangements started materializing. Nadia has this perpetual creative spark ricocheting inside her spirit and I got to sit next to her as she wrote a bunch of songs. I would compare having her sprinkle that commotion in her soul all over my album to sitting at a table with Emily Brontë, laying my arm down, and letting Emily scribble a poem on my skin.
